Australia Post Commission

In 2013, Australia Post commissioned me to paint the flowering shrubs of Christmas Island.
In 2013, Australia Post commissioned me to paint the flowering shrubs of Christmas Island. The chosen species were endemic to the island and some grew nowhere else. Having not seen the plants, I reached out to the CSIRO who had recently been on a field trip to Christmas Island. One of the scientists agreed to check my illustrations for accuracy, particularly the size of the flowers in relation to the foliage, as I was unable to find this information from my own internet research. After much consultation, the illustrations were painted in watercolour on paper to the exacting specifications supplied by Australia Post.
There are four stamps depicting the flowering shrubs of Christmas Island:
Colubrina pedunculata
Abutilon listeri
Urena lobulata var. sinuate
Indigofera hirsuta
