Oil painting

When the Covid pandemic closed down everything in 2020, I had just finished building my new studio.

The lockdowns gave me the opportunity to reacquaint myself with oil painting, a pastime I first began as a teenager. My ambition was to apply oil paint using the knowledge I had acquired with watercolours. I explored drawing in oil paint on primed linen. I learned the qualities of oil paint, mediums, and became familiar with the differences between pigments and commercial brands. I layered my colours; mixed paints and applied them alla prima; underpainted my surfaces; drew into/ over this; put paint on then wiped it off. I spent two years experimenting and then finally had the confidence to exhibit.  There was a lot to learn. I’m still learning.
